Bufflehead (male) in flight – Windsor Ontario

This is the smallest diving duck in North America. Its name is a combination of buffalo and head, referring to the head shape. It breeds from Alaska to eastern Canada. It winters along Pacific and Atlantic coasts scattered across the continent, south to northern Mexico. Length: 32-39 cm Wingspan: 54-61 cm Lifespan: up to 15 years
