Velvet-purple Coronet – Ecuador

February 27, 2023 By Stan Lee

A medium sized hummingbird that looks all blackish in poor light, but at the right angle and lighting it shows multiple colors with a purple belly and crown, turquoise sides, and greenish wing coverts. It can only be found along the Pacific slope of the Andes from southwestern Colombia to northwestern Ecuador. Length: 11-12.7 cm (4.3-5.0 in)
