This iconic bird of the Andes is the last lifer on my birding trip in Ecuador. It can be found in cloud forest at middle elevations of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It is the national bird of Peru. Most often, it can be found at a dawn display site where males make piglike squeals and jump and dance for females. This is an extremely high ISO image as it was taken at dawn in a very thick forest where we found them.
